TROPICAL RAINFOREST
o Warm temperature and rainfall all year
o most animals live in the canopy (uppermost branches of trees)
o soil is poor
o high biodiversity
GRASSLAND BIOMES
Tropical Grasslands (savannahs)- think Lion King
o grass, few trees
o rain seasons
Temperate Grasslands
o good soil
o really windy
o most precipitation is snow in winter
DESERT
o little rain
o either really hot or really cold
o plants have to adapt to little rain
TEMPERATE FOREST
o distinguishable seasons!!!!
Temperate Deciduous Forest
o here. Look outside.
o Deciduous trees- drop their leaves in the fall and go dormant during the cold season
Temperate Rain Forest
o Long wet season, dry summers
o Coniferous- trees retain needles all year
TAIGA
o Cooler climates
o Short summers
o However, can be quite humid and warn
o Coniferous trees
TUNDRA
o Located beyond the taiga, only north latitudes
o Winter is 10 months
o Permafrost- ground is permanently frozen
MINOR BIOMES
Chaparral
o Mediterranean shrubland
o Temps 50-104 F
o Plants five off highly flammable oils
o Rely on fires for seeds to germinate
